🚨 Taniwha DH Temporary Trail Closure 🚨

Kia ora Rotorua trail-lovers — we’ve got an important heads-up for everyone who enjoys riding the Downhill (Taniwha DH) trail in Whakarewarewa Forest.
As a result of the recent storm, several large trees have come down throughout the DH trails. We responded immediately and when seeing the extent of the damage, made the tough call to close the DH trails to keep everyone safe.
We understand how disappointing closures can be — especially when you're itching to ride. Rest assured, it’s only for safety, only the top section, and only temporary: our clearance crew can’t get in there until Tuesday next week, so the trail will remain closed until then, at the earliest.
Good news: as many of you already know, this trail is scheduled for logging later this year — but the folks at Descend Rotorua, who have adopted the trail, are working their hardest to keep things going as long as possible before logging begins.
We’re really sorry for any inconvenience or frustration this causes—it’s tough on everyone. But your safety, and the safety of our crews, must come first.
Thanks for bearing with us and for being such an engaged, resilient community. We’ll update you the minute the trail is cleared and ready to roll again!
Ngā mihi nui,
Rotorua Trails Trust
