The Rotorua Trails Trust will support the development and lead maintenance of Biking, Walking, Running and Horse-Riding Trails.
This will be achieved by:

Primarily monitoring and auditing the Whakarewarewa Forest trail network and ensuring that it is maintained to the highest standards.

Developing robust strategies and plans for maintenance schedules of existing trails.

Being at the forefront of trail building and maintenance techniques and compliance.

Advocating for trail maintenance and development that serves the needs of the landowners and the community.

Working with the mana whenua in a spirit of cooperation and partnership, acknowledging their world view.
“Intergenerational Prosperity”
The Rotorua Trails Trust will become part of the eco-system of custodians of the Whakarewarewa Forest (and other areas if appropriate) and provide support and advice as appropriate developing a long-term sustainable model. This will be achieved by:

Forging a relationship with landowners, mana whenua and undertake meaningful
engagement to understand mana whenua positions and aspirations.

Undertake cultural development within the organisation to better understand the cultural history of the whenua

Engage closely with stakeholders to gain greater understanding of opportunities available and provide balanced, considered and informed advice.

Focussing on cultural, environmental and economic sustainability.

Ensuring the Strategy and Plans are dynamic and evolving with the needs of the time.
