🌟🚵‍♂️ WHAKA WEEKLY 🚵‍♂️🌟 8 May 2025

🌤️ Weather: i LOVE this time of year!!

🌱 Dirt: The best in the world right now.

My days, it’s been a big week in the forest!

Te Mounga

It all kicked off with a massive turnout for the working bee on Sunday — maybe because everyone loves Te Mounga so much?! Whatever the reason, they did some incredible mahi, filling in massive sections of water runs, channels, trenches, braking bumps, and repairing berms. Absolute legends, you lot! Thank you so much for your donation of time and energy — we’re already looking forward to seeing you at the next one!

Old Chevy

Old Chevy has received an absolute ton of love — drains cleared, debris tossed off the track, and heaps of vege trimmed to within an inch of its life. So good to see this very, very, very long, winding, life defining and beautiful track getting the love it deserves.

Pig Track

Pig Track has had the adopter down it, and as always, they've left us a tasty treat of words. Here’s a note from the trail adopter:

"What was meant to be a brief visit on a training ride turned into two hours of cleaning drains, needles, and pine cones that were trying to hide."

Amazing. Thank you for that little treat, buddy. 🧡

Dragon’s Tail

A tidy-up from a very, very busy trail adopter who looks after multiple trails across the forest — and always does a fantastic job. 💪

K2 and Tūkonohi

Not a trail report, just a big shout-out. K2 is getting a lot of love from the riders and everyone has been saying its running Mint, along with Tūkonohi. Well done to the adopters who have been putting in the hard yards — legends. 🤘

Piglet

And look at this — another wee message from our Pig Track adopter, this time for Piglet, their little brother track:

"Like a present for a child on their sibling’s birthday

a sneaky hour of tidying up after a morning spent on Pig just across the way."

Lovely stuff. 🎁

Mini DH

Mini DH has had some beautiful work done — the trail adopter popped in after school one day to tackle a mean-looking corner, rebuilt it completely, and now it’s fresh gold, ready to ride. 🔥

🆕 Shout-outs to a few NEW TRAIL ADOPTERS! 🎉

Dual Slalom

We’ve got a new trail adopter on the Dual Slalom track — and we’re really, really excited about it. This track’s special — it’s still being used to train for slalom events, and we all know Rotorua rippers do well in those, often having trained right here...all be it back when it was running Mint! Even held a checky event or two on it!

We wanna bring that back!

So it’s awesome to have someone passionate taking the reins. Looking forward to seeing what they can do over the coming months. Fingers crossed it’ll be all Mint again by summertime! ☀️

Grade 5 Rippers Stepping Up

We’ve also got a crew of trail adopters now looking after the brand new Grade 5 tracks: Divine Wind, Yeet Street, and Hickle and Ride.

Super stoked to have some seriously talented riders and trail builders stepping up and coming to Rotorua Trails Trust, keen to be officially involved in keeping this forest beautiful.

We all want the same thing — all trails, all grades, running Mint.

And if that means chucking on some hi-vis and posting a Trailforks report after your mahi? Mate, if ya can do that then we’d love to have you contributing positively to the forest.

Massive welcome to all our new trail adopters. 🙌 Without you, this forest wouldn't be the amazing place that it is.

Events

🚫 No events this weekend.

As always, a huge thanks to everyone who’s contributed to the forest this week. Whether you’ve been volunteering, reporting downed trees, flagging dog poo, rocking up and contributing at the Trail Drinks (full report to come!) or just being an active part of the community — it all helps make this place better.

The community around this forest stretches far and wide — donations have even come in from across the ditch in Australia. Thank you so much for everything you contribute.

Here’s hoping for a bit of sunshine this weekend — get out there and enjoy nature.

Chur! ✌️

💚 The forest is free to access and love — but it costs a lot to maintain.

Will you donate to help us keep it beautiful?
