🌟🚵‍♂️ WHAKA WEEKLY 🚵‍♂️🌟 20 March 2025

Updated: Mar 20

🌤️ Weather: Oppphhh yeah, we needed that rain, I guess… careful what you wish for, eh!

🌱 Dirt: Got a good soaking, so the dust is mostly gone, but some trails are a little spicy! 🌶️

🔨 A note to trail adopters and volly crewsI think this week has highlighted the need for us to head out to the trails we look after and clear the drains! 💦 All that dust has been washed down the trails and blocked lots of drains, so let’s all roll up our sleeves, dust off the shovels 🛠️, and head out to do what we love! Giving back to the forest that gives us so much! 🌳❤️

If you’d like to pitch in, give us a buzz 📧 at comms@rotoruatrailstrust.co.nz or make a donation at www.rotoruatrailstrust.co.nz to show the forest some love! Chur! 🤙

🦁 Lion Trail

This awesome trail adopter took the time to say thanks to the trail crew for clearing a tree off Lion Trail, AND did trail work! 💪 What a legend! Thanks, mate—always lovely to get a thank you, and here is one right back at ya! 🙌 Thanks for your mahi, buddy!

💬 "Thanks to the Trust crew for tree removal... Today: trail very dry. Cleared a lot of leaf litter. Removed Ponga fronds overhanging track. Removed 'Metres' of Eucalyptus bark littering the track. Cleared drain entries."

Thanks again! 🙏

🔄 Mad If You Don’t

Just a light go-over for vege and checking out the trail conditions. Great report from the adopter letting us know what work is needed out there—really appreciate that! And you submitted an excellent photo too! 📸 Love it!

🌿 Mokopuna

The trail crew have been heading out there every week to chip away at this long and much-loved trail. 🏕️ The Mokopuna is used by thousands of people every week, so we really want to make sure it’s always in amazing condition. Takes a lot of mahi, but we love it and hope you do too! 💚

If you’re a frequent forest user, please consider dropping a little donation—every cent helps us keep these trails in the condition you deserve. 👉 www.rotoruatrailstrust.co.nz

⚒️ Anxiety and Ultra Rosa

After receiving a report of a section of trail that had seen better days, the trail crew got right out there to fix it up. 🛠️ If you see something—anything—out there on the trails, no matter if it’s big, small, a quick fix or a big one, a Grade 2 trail or a Grade 6, please let us know! 📢

We want to make sure the trails are always well-loved and riding (and walking or running) amazing! 💯 One team, one dream! ✨

🐴 Bush Buchanan Trail

Big thanks to the horse riding community for letting us know that the forestry banners effectively closing the trail were up a little longer than needed. We’ve worked with Timberlands to ensure they could come down and the trail could be reopened after an inspection. ✅

The trail is now open, and although there are some trees down, the horse community has asked us to leave them there to make the trail more interesting! 🐎 Awesome! Enjoy the trail! 🎉

🔥 Te Ahi Manawa

The trail crew have done a great job opening up lines of sight and giving the trail a light tickle to keep it running amazingly. 💨 And boy, did they nail it! The trail is running awesome! Well worth the trip up there to give it a ride! 🚴‍♀️💨

🪚 Soakhole Climb & Turkish Delight Block

This section of the forest is getting a lot of love this week. Extensive weed-whacking is underway to clear the crazy vegetation growth 🌿⚡ and open up lines of sight.

Soakhole is not only an awesome uphill MTB trail 🚵‍♀️ but also a great two-way walking trail 🚶‍♂️. Keep this in mind as you power up there on your eBike ⚡ or stroll down on an epic walking adventure 🥾—there could be a group of walkers or bikers around any corner.

🚦 Always keep left, be kind and considerate to each other, and share with care. ❤️

🌳 The forest is free to access and love, but it costs A LOT to maintain.

Please, please donate so we can keep the forest beautiful: www.rotoruatrailstrust.co.nz

🙏 Thank you so much!
