🌟🚵‍♂️ WHAKA WEEKLY 🚵‍♂️🌟📅 11th September 2025

🌤️ Weather: Lol — spring has sprung! Windy, raining, then suddenly warm and sunny. Typical Rotorua!

🌱 Dirt: Dry with some damp spots — pretty mint riding conditions!

🙏 Big Thanks to YOU!

Every little donation you make after your ride keeps this place alive. Unlike other pay-to-ride parks, Rotorua trails are completely free to ride — but they cost a LOT to keep safe, signed, and maintained. 💸

So when you choose to make those post-ride micro-donations — you’re the real MVPs. Legends! 💚🌲

🌟 Legends of the Forest

After that massive storm clean-up, the DH lines are officially back in action! This didn’t happen by chance — it took hours of mahi from a crew of absolute legends who braved the rain to clear trees, dig out stumps, and bring the trails back to life.

Huge thanks to 👉 Northern Grit Cycle Worx, 👉 @wooddog798, 👉 @nett_mtb, 👉 @ashton_neighbour, 👉 @biker_rob00, 👉 @andrewburt985, 👉 @soph3riddle, and the Brains Trust: 🌟 Toni (with an i) Fleming, 💪 Rob Mattock, and 👨‍🌾 Andrew Burt.

Without you, the trails would still be buried. We’re lucky to have such a dedicated crew in our community. 🙌

🌲 Logging This Summer

The Rotorua Trails Trust is committed to keeping ALL trails rideable — even those scheduled for logging this summer. We’ll never abandon a track or let it fall apart.

But sometimes we need the community’s help — trail adopters, working bee legends, and supportive local businesses. Want to get involved? You can:

✅ Join a working bee

✅ Adopt a trail

✅ Make a donation

✅ Or sponsor a trail as a business

🚪 Mountain Bike Rotorua – Closed for Good!

Calm down… it’s not what you think! 😅 Every year MBR closes for a good cause (“Closed for Good”). This year they smashed it, giving a bunch of trails a well-needed tickle up:

Te Rua: Full leaf-blow, drain clear, vegetation trim & rut repair at shuttle drop-off.

Mā Te Wā: Crew cleared drains, cut back vegetation & leaf-blowed — made it halfway, to be continued!

Plus lots of vege-clearing & drain work on: Heckle and Ride, Divine Wind & the top of Te Ruru.

Thanks legends — trails are running sweet thanks to you! 👏

💙 Lake Tikitapu Walking Trail

This stunning loop just got a much-needed tidy up. ✂️🌿 If you need a dose of nature this weekend, take a walk around Tikitapu — it’s pure magic. ✨

🛠️ Trail Adopter Updates

Box of Birds

👉 “Took advantage of a rainy day to fix some dammed puddles. Also repaired the steep shortcut on Fluffy Duck.”

👉 “Fixed puddles, drains, trimmed veg top to bottom. Lots of riders out today — including happy husbands & nervous (but willing!) wives. Running just how I like it best.”

Homeward Bound

👉 “Sorted out drains and puddles in the last section — easy to find in the rain.”

Respect — takes guts to do drains in the rain! 🌧️💪

New Exit

Almost a full rebuild, all by hand, all by ONE person. 🤯 Honestly, can we clone them a few times? Absolute machine.

Frontal Lobotomy

👉 “Blower, spade, trail tool. Doggo didn’t approve of the blower. Almost to the first switchback! Cleared drains, veg, mud, needles… still a big job ahead.”

Hard mahi — no trail left unloved! 🙌

The adopter is back after a well-earned break! Started strong with drains — the foundation of all good trails. 👌
