🌤️ Weather: A Storm a week = trees down all over the show. 🌬️
🌱 Dirt: Soft, avoid dragging your breaks to preserve the trail surface. Be tree-aware and report any finds with wide angle picture (so we can see the scope) and GPS Location (trailforks screen shot). 🌳
219 hours spent clearing trees in the last 3 months. Madness. 😵💫
Dragon’s Tail 🐉
Here is a word from the trail adopter: “So many sticks down after the last storm gave it a clean and sorted out some puddles who were trying to become residents.” Hehehe thanks for that buddy! 😄
Feeder 🥣
A fantastic job tickling up Feeder and the surrounding area, keeping it nice in between these storms we are having. Honestly, preventative maintenance is the best way to keep trails running mint, greatly appreciated. 💚
Minerals ⛏️
Lots and lots of fantastic work going on by the trail adopter! Such a difficult trail to keep running good through winter. We all really appreciate the hard mahi you are putting in the keep the trail running as good as possible, you're a legend!
Sweet N Sour 🍬
“Quick pass through to clear surface plus some minor drainage. Some of the bigger drains have failed and need properly digging out.” Chur for the report, and that tree over track that was reported has been cleared by the volly crew, legends!! 🙌
Pig Track 🐖
Highlight of the Whaka Weekly, a poem from the trail adopter!
“Oh the day there was a huge tree blocking Pig
O-dee-lay o-dee-lay o-dee-lay-ig
Tony was a legend with the leaf blowing gear
O-dee-lay o-dee-lay o-dee-lay-ear
Many a drain was made empty
O-dee-lay o-dee-lay o-dee-lay-ee
And the trail was cleared of detritus
O-dee-lay o-dee-lay o-dee-lay-us
Oh the day there was a huge tree blocking Pig
O-dee-lay o-dee-lay o-dee-lay-ig”
Wow. Just….wow. 🤩
Taura 🚴♀️
Here is a quick word from the trail adopter: “Rider feedback is Taura is running fast. This weekend surface debris removal was completed under the big trees and the Poplar Link end section also cleaned up”
Yeah, my feedback is Taura is epic! Yay just need to get rid of the hills at the start, lol. 😆
Maiden Voyage 🛶
Huge shout out to the Mud Maidens crew for getting out there in the dark and throwing dirt! Legends! Check out the pictures, they are cracking good! Here is a word from the legends themselves:
“It had been a while since we went up to give it a tickle up. Even with all the rain lately it actually wasn't too bad. Opened out some ruts, filled some holes and loaded up some of those off camber log takes off with a bit more dirt.”
If you haven't seen the video interview we did with them, head over to www.rotoruatrailstrust.co.nz, its def worth a watch. Theres a couple a good vids on there actually (bottom of the home page)🎥
Corridor (Natives Section) 🌿
Fantastic work from the trail adopter…
“Threw some dirt around on two troublesome corners on the last section. Should still be pretty techy, but less Kataore, more Tihi o Tawa vibes.. Closed off the cheat line that keeps appearing!”
Thanks for keeping it all in order. ✅
The Brains Trust 🧠
Tim Tams (a week late, sorry folks!) 🍪
I missed this trail report last week, super sorry folks, love ya work! Here is their report:
“🌧️💪 13 no-brains volunteers braved the wet and cold this morning to tackle Tim Tams! They cleared slips, repaired water damage, moved a heap of soil, opened up sight lines, and upgraded rollovers — an epic morning’s work. Wrapped it all up with a hot sausage and a cold bevie. Legends! 🙌🔥🍻”
Loads of epic pictures of this work too, check the pictures! 📸
Working Bee 🐝
Last Sunday we had our monthly working Bee! This time it was on a walking trail, The Lake Tikitapu Circut. The fantastic crew from ANZ Rotorua Branch turned up in force to lend a hand! This is so super cool, what a great idea for a team building day! If you have a crew at you office that would love to give back to the community, reach out! We would love to set up a working bee day for you, no experience needed, just an awesome attitude and a desire to give back. For more info send me an email at comms@rotoruatrailstrust.co.nz. 🙏
Poplar Link
Keeping with the theme of clearing walking tracks, the Taura adopter has cleared the debris and pine needle build up on this 2-way walk/cycle track. The squish has gone to leave a solid base for walking and riding. There is no excuse to be using the road now - and yes we know who you are! 👀
