Trails Drinks – Session #2: Illegal Trails – What’s the Deal?
Following the success of our first Trails Drinks session, we’re back with another evening of relaxed conversations, insights, and connection—this time diving into the hot topic of illegal trails.
Inspired by the popular Green Drinks concept, Trails Drinks is all about bringing the community together in an informal setting to educate, engage, and collaborate. Whether you're a rider, runner, hiker, or just trail-curious, you're invited to join us for an open discussion about what goes on behind the scenes in trail management.
This month, we’re tackling illegal trails—a topic that stirs plenty of debate in our passionate community. We’ll cover:
What defines an "illegal" trail?
Why do they pop up, and what challenges do they create?
How does the Rotorua Trails Trust approach them?
What’s the process for getting new trails approved?
We’ll chat about the realities of balancing trail advocacy with environmental impact, landowner agreements, and keeping our world-class network sustainable for the future.
Bring your questions, ideas, and mates—everyone's welcome! Let’s keep the conversations rolling and continue working together to make our trails the best they can be.
