WHAT?
THE BANGER. Let's shoot for the moon.
Rotorua didn't just join the world stage of mountain biking — we helped build it. Now it's time to build the trail that keeps us there.
This isn't a weekend dig with the crew. This is a genuine, world-class downhill trail — the kind that goes head-to-head with the best tracks on the planet, and keeps producing the riders who go toe-to-toe with the world's best.
This is a different kind of build. It needs:
Proper access points — road and vehicle access built to handle shuttles, support vehicles, and event logistics, not just a track cut through the bush
Spectator infrastructure — vantage points, safe viewing areas, and space for the crowds a trail like this deserves
World-class trail design — bringing in professional DH course designers and pro riders to consult, test, and refine every line before a shovel goes in the ground
Time to do it right — this is a slow-down-and-plan job, not a rush job. Great trails are engineered, not just built.
Why it matters:
Every world-class rider who's come out of this region started somewhere local. If we want the next generation of Kiwi riders standing on world cup podiums, we need world-class terrain to train and compete on right here at home. This trail is that investment — in our riders, our community, and Rotorua's place on the global mountain biking map.
This isn't community-build money — that's already sorted. This is the big swing. The trail that puts us on the international calendar.
